This ancient fishing village is mentioned in the Doomsday book (c.1100 A.D.) and it is probable that a settlement existed before that, in Saxon times.

Visit it now and you can still experience the tranquil pace of life of two hundred years ago - it will leave you with lifetime memories

There is only pedestrian access to the village and this is by way of a path leading from the Clovelly visitor Centre at the eastern end of the car park. As you walk down the tumbling cobbled street you will notice dates on some cottages, and this marks the restoration work carried out by a great benefactress and previous owner of the village
