Sea Bass - Serranidae
Widely distributed around the UK coast line the sea bass is almost always on the top of an anglers fish to catch list
Bass come inshore to breed around june , some traveling up the Bristol Channel others heading to the coast of ireland to breed
Bass eggs are buoyant and just float with in the tidal streams . Measuring 1.15mm / 1.20mm the fry hatch within six days and grow very fast until they are around 2 to 4 inches in length and then start to slow down . Bass are slow grows and can be several decades old !!
Handling Sea Bass
As you can see from the image above the bass has Spines both on its back and also on its under belly and boy will they hurt if you do not handle the fish correctly
The best way to handle most bass is to use your thumb and finger and grasp the lower lip
